FAQ
A few things you may be wondering
How do I know if we’re a good fit?
1
I meet with every potential client for a free phone or video consultation before scheduling an initial appointment. I’ll ask a little about what is bringing you to therapy, and you’ll have the chance to ask about my style, experience, or anything else that feels important to you.
If I don’t think I’m the right person to meet your needs, I’ll be honest with you and offer referrals when I can. You may also decide that I’m not the right fit for you—and that’s completely okay. Every therapist has their own personality and way of communicating, and every client has different preferences for how they want to experience therapy.
Do I need to know exactly what I want to work on?
2
Not at all. You can come to therapy with a general sense that something feels off without knowing exactly what it is or why. I’ll meet you where you are, and we can begin making sense of it together.
What happens during the first session?
3
Before our first session, I’ll review the information you shared in your intake paperwork and make note of anything I’d like to understand more fully. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, some of your history, and any previous experiences you’ve had with therapy. You’ll also have space to ask questions and let me know what feels important for me to understand about you.
No. We’ll work at your pace and begin with what feels comfortable for you to share. Talking about the deeper stuff often feels easier once trust has developed in the therapeutic relationship, and sometimes we simply need to spend time building that trust first.
Do I have to talk about trauma right away?
4
Can spirituality or faith be part of therapy?
5
Absolutely. I genuinely enjoy incorporating a client’s faith or spirituality into our sessions when it’s important to them. These parts of our lives can hold a great deal of meaning, and they deserve to have a place in the conversation.
Do you offer in-person and virtual therapy?
6
Yes. I offer in-person therapy in downtown Wilmington and virtual therapy throughout North Carolina. I prefer meeting in person, when possible, but virtual sessions are available when they make therapy more accessible or practical for you. If we decide to begin focused trauma processing, I’ll generally ask that we meet in person for those sessions.
What are your fees, and do you accept insurance?
7
I am currently accepting self-pay clients at a rate of $135 per session. I am also in the process of becoming credentialed with Blue Cross Blue Shield and UnitedHealthcare and expect to begin accepting those plans in the coming months. Please reach out for the most current information about insurance availability.
